This law is called HIPAA, which stands for the “Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.”

HIPAA regulates how your health records are shared, stored and used. An associated Privacy Rule requires that all your medical records, including paper and computer files, are maintained in strictest confidence and not shared with anyone, unless you give written permission to do so or under certain circumstances that are required by law.
